Key project challenges included: the demolition of existing buildings and the construction of the first section of the new school and residential structures while the existing school remained in occupation; and the logistical challenges of working adjacent to a live railway and the busy Battersea Park Road.

Services
Ark delivered MEP distribution and fit-out, including energy centre, infrastructure services over three blocks, and fit out of private and affordable apartments.
Located within the Vauxhall, Nine Elms, and Battersea Opportunity Area, the site covers an area of approximately 1.82 hectares.
The Battersea Exchange Energy Centre was designed to provide LTHW to 290 apartments over ten blocks, a primary school with a 3574m² footprint and two retail/commercial spaces with a combined foot print of circa 3625m².
This was achieved using five boilers with a total heating capacity of 3.4MW, serving the ten blocks and school via new site wide, district heating pipework. Provision was provided for future connection within the energy centre to the VNEB (Vauxhall, Nine Elms, Battersea) off site district heating scheme.
The energy centre was constructed, commissioned and handed over in 20 weeks. It incorporated ventilation, electrical installation, BMS, LTHW, DHW, thermal stores, cold water booster sets and cold-water storage.
